Have you ever seen fresh turmeric root? It’s a funny little orange root that looks somewhat similar to ginger. Usually it’s just used as a spice in Indian food, but in recent years the world has started to realize just how many wonderful health benefits turmeric has! After reading about it, we started using it ourselves.  I mostly use it as a tea, or make golden milk with it. Philip like to sprinkle it on his food and also uses it when he cooks foods like curries. It’s actually a great source of many healing nutrients. If you are considering eating more turmeric to become healthier, you’ll like this list of 5 Health Benefits of Turmeric!

1. Turmeric for inflammation

Turmeric is very powerful at reducing inflammation. In fact, it has more than two dozen anti-inflammatory nutrients. This is because of the curcumin in turmeric. It makes turmeric able to help with inflammation and inflammation related pain. As a result, taking turmeric for inflammation can help reduce the discomfort of arthritis, bruises, wounds, and oral soreness. If an issue is caused (or made worse) by inflammation, turmeric can help!

2. Turmeric cancer benefits

According to the American Institute For Cancer Research, one of the most amazing health benefits of turmeric is that it can help prevent and fight cancer. And it’s not just strong against one form of cancer, it’s actually powerful at fighting many different kinds, including oral cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. Again, this is likely due to the curcumin in turmeric. While these preliminary results of how turmeric helps in cancer are very encouraging, more and more research is being done in this area.

3. Turmeric benefits for cholesterol

If you suffer from high cholesterol, turmeric may be able to help you! One of the great benefits of turmeric is that its curcumin can help manage your cholesterol levels. Numerous studies including this one show that if your cholesterol is already high, it can help lower it. If your levels are safe but start to spike, turmeric can help keep them under control. All of this is the result of several properties of turmeric. Turmeric helps keep your bad (LDL) cholesterol from turning into plaque in your blood, reduces how much LDL cholesterol floats around in your blood, and helps your liver to properly metabolize cholesterol.
